Africa 2005
Wheelchair accessible safari in Kenya - map
In August 2005 I travelled around Kenya, devising an itinerary to give wheelchair users and disabled people an affordable and accessible holiday in some of Africa's best game parks and most unique cultures.
Itinerary
Nairobi - Time to explore Kenya's capital; we'll try to take in the Langata Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and possibly the Nairobi National Park Animal Orphanage.
Mount Kenya - A stop en-route to Samburu next to Kenya's highest peak. Unfortunately no time to climb but we'll see the rare sight of equatorial snow!
Samburu National Reserve - 2 days in this arid northern region, where we'll be on the lookout for Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe.
Mount Kenya - Maybe time to look out for an elusive black leopard, a bongo or a serval cat!
Lake Nakuru National Park - A picturesque landscape and plenty game spotting opportunities (including black and white rhino) plus the biggest euphorbia forest in Africa!
Lake Naivasha - It's time to relax beside this papyrus-fringed lake with fantastic bird-watching.
Masai Mara National Reserve - 2 days in this world famous reserve. We will hopefully arrive around the same time as the Great Migration, when about 1.5 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebra and 500,000 Thomson's gazelle head north from the Serengeti in search of fresh grass.
Mombasa - 3 days based in a comfortable coastal resort, where we can lie around beside the pool, go to the beach, explore the old town or even visit Tsavo East NP for more game viewing!
